Centrus Team Volunteered with Hands on London

This June, for London Climate Action Week, a group from Centrus swapped our desks for spades and headed to Holland Park to volunteer with Hands On London, a small charity that connects Londoners with flexible, high-impact volunteering opportunities across the city.

Hands On London runs BrightenUp London, an ongoing conservation campaign working across 40+ green spaces in the capital, from historic parks to community gardens and school grounds, to keep them accessible, safe, and rich in biodiversity. Their Holland Park site has a particularly great story behind it: what started in 2017 as an overgrown, largely inaccessible patch of woodland has since been transformed by volunteers into a thriving forest school, complete with a pond, bug hotels, wild plant beds and over 2km of nature trails, now used by local children and schools throughout Kensington and Chelsea.

Spending the day weeding, planting and tending the trails was a brilliant reminder of how much of London’s green space relies on volunteer effort to stay open and thriving, and a great way for the Centrus team to connect outside the office while giving something back to the local community.
